Making A Statement With Right Hand Diamond Rings

It may be possible to find a 2 carat diamond solitaire ring for under $4000, but not probable. At the moment there is a shortage of larger diamonds, and anything 1 carat and above commands a premium price. The lowest price currently available for a 2 carat diamond ring is about $8500 at a retail jewelry store.

The benefit of the culet is that it protects the bottom of the diamond from chipping over the years. The point of the diamond shape is prone to that. The detriment of the culet is that because it is a flat facet that is parallel to the Table you can see right through the diamond from the top through the culet, and that can be mistaken as an inclusion. The appearance will not be of a surface, a diamond look, but will be of whatever surface color is behind it – like looking through a window.

Wow, all this and we haven’t even begun looking at diamonds yet. But, equipped with the 4 C’s and her preferences give you a huge leg up on the guy who just stumbles into a Louisville jewelry store and reticently announces that “I want to buy a diamond.” Who is that guy, anyway? Not you, to be sure.

The next thing to consider and should never be left out is the budget. Diamond rings are pricey and can range from reasonably expensive to extremely expensive. Your choice of ring should be limited to the budget. When you go diamond engagement ring buying, it is the stone that makes the price escalate. Thus, knowing and understanding diamond buying basics should be your priority before embarking on the quest. Note that diamond crafters make use of four factors in diamond buying. And these standards should also be used by you.

When you buy any diamond of 1 carat or larger, it should be accompanied with a certificate from a recognized independent Gem Lab. Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the the American Gem Society (AGS) will certify loose diamonds only, and they are very reliable labs. Other commonly recognized independent labs are International Gemological Institute (IGI), Independent Gemological Laboratories (IGL), and European Gemological Laboratory (EGL-USA). These labs will certify finished jewelry items such as diamond rings, and they list a retail replacement value for insurance purposes.

Retail jewelry stores generally make a 50% markup on their diamonds. There are plenty of reputable diamond dealers on the internet that make between 7% to 15% markup on the same diamond ring.

Jewelers talk endlessly about diamond color, about the excellence and superiority of stones with a higher color grade. But the truth for the average buyer is that neither you nor anyone around you would be able to tell a D color grade from a K color grade in a diamond if you’re wearing it in a complementary setting.
